Advocacy
Rapporteur. A ten-country thematic study on women affected by natural disasters for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). (December 2016 to May 2017)
Along with the research team, coordinated to organize access to the participant countries with the mediation of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.
Along with National Focal Point persons, gained access to and interviewed various government ministries and residents of flood-prone municipalities in Brunei Darussalam and Lao PDR.
Co-wrote evidence-based recommendations in the “Women in Natural Disasters: Indicative Findings in Unravelling Gender in Institutional Responses.”
Presented findings to all stakeholders in a validation workshop and in a panel at the Philippine Political Science Conference of 2017.
Writer/Co-producer. “Bigkis ng Lahi.” (Ties that Bind). (October 2009 to January 2010)
A documentary on the impact of large-scale mining on indigenous peoples of Mindoro island. A project for Non-Timber Forest Products Exchange Programme for South and Southeast Asia, funded by Dutch foundation CordAid. Co-production with director and cinematographer Butch Maddul.
Along with leaders in the Mangyan indigenous community (Samahan ng mga Nagkakaisang Mangyan Alangan), conducted fieldwork and interviews of key stakeholders in the province of Mindoro, Philippines. Respondents in local government, civil society and indigenous communities.
Wrote documentary script.
Research Officer. Centre for Policy Advocacy and Development, Philippine Legislators Committee on Population and Development. (June 2008 to August 2009).
Wrote policy briefs, technical reports and occasional speeches for member-legislators in the Philippine Congress. Contributed to drafting external communications for advocacy purposes on the passage of the Reproductive Health Bill (newspaper editorials, cross-network communications)
Participated in the organization and holding of mass mobilizations (rallies) with partner civil society, professional groups and interested local residents in Quezon City.
Interviewed key members of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (in person at the 26th Asian Parliamentarians’ Meeting on Population and Development, Jakarta, Indonesia) and via Skype. Synthesized other documents and wrote report. Project funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
